Apples. So simple, so delicious. Ever since i fell in love with a 70s-era apple jar at a friend’s place i’ve been looking for the perfect one to match my kitchen. I’ve found apple canisters in different materials, from plastic to wood and metal.
The typical bright red apple container found at ModishVintage’s.
A small wooden apple container in my etsy shop.
The brass apple from greenhearts’.
To add a little extra i’ve found some vintage apple-recipes on twisted-candy.com to make your house smell like apple too.
‘Mid-century Modern labels’ has more of these finger-licking images.

TREASUREHUNTING IN THE NETHERLANDS
Four lovely fleamarkets in the Netherlands:
* Fleamarket in the IJ-hallen in Amsterdam, every first weekend of the month. You’ll find vintage outfits and decoration items. During summer the fleamarket is held outside.
adress: IJ-hallen, T.T. Neveritaweg 15, Amsterdam,
check www.ij-hallen.nl.
* The Fleamarkt in the Veemarkthallen in Utrecht has more than a hundred stalls. Buy yourself a small vintage trolley, you’ll find out sellers will lower their prices as you’ll have the looks of a true fleamarket buyer.
adress: Veemarkthallen, Sartreweg 1-3, Utrecht, check www.vlooienmarkt.nl.
* In the UK it’s a well known concept, but carbootsales have only recently hit the Netherlands. The idea: vans and trailers filled with secondhand-stuff, packed together on a square. check www.carbootsale.nl or www.kofferbakmarkt.nl.
* Antique dealers in Betuwe mapped a special scenic route past farms filled with brocante and workshops with china.
check www.antiekroute.info.
On Atom-A you’ll find a large set of advertising on belgian brands from the fifties. Below is a poster i loved, for the Expo 58 world fair, with the Atomium as centrepiece.
expo ‘58 logo designed by Lucien de Roeck.
Tomado started in 1923 as a small company in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. In origin they produced small hooks to hang paintings on your wall. After World War II they started producing a broad range of kitchenware and thus became a symbol for modern household. Everyone had something-Tomado in his house. The Tomado-wire-rack was extremely popular. It reffered to the modernist work by Piet Mondrian and Gerrit Rietveld with its bright colors red, yellow, blue and black. Today it is very wanted as a vintage item. You can find some on the dutch ebay.

Fears and Kahn sells modern antique hybrids, customised pieces of post-war design. Wooden furniture is fully restored and updated, often with a coloured lacquered panel. I would love to fill my house with these.
This is the greatest vintage photo-series ever. Douglas Campbell (1912-2007) was an amateur photographer and observer of life. His family has undertaken to digitize his collection of 35mm slides (30,000+ spanning a period of 50 years). This “Show” is the family’s tribute to his ability, energy and enthusiasm.
I’m fond of the pictures of his wife, standing in the loveliest landscapes, wearing her red coat, posing for him, usually with her back towards the camera, unsure if she’s really fond of being part of the picture.
Oregon Trail ruts, near Vale, OR (1992).
Callander (1958).
Inspecting barrel cactus, Saguaro National Monument, AZ (1978).
Browse trough the albums or try searching for “landscape person tree”.
The name Pat Albeck was brought to me on a flowery metal tray, and now i found a second one with this lovely drawing of a lion, which appears to be part of a series. There’s hardly any information about these trays, how many exist in this series, but these are the three i managed to trace on the internet.

Pat Albeck’s own website does show some images of her other work.
